In conjunction with their exhibition Food for the the People: Eating and Activism in Greater Washington, the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum produced a program that involved a DMV-wide scavenger hunt. Called the Urban Adventure, the program encourages participants to rediscover their surroundings through the perspective of renowned local celebrity chefs. The first iteration of the program was a collaboration between the museum and Carla Hall.

Approach

When we were approached by the museum team for the project, the idea was already fully formed and there was a clear creative brief that helped us turn around the project within a condensed time frame. After doing the initial concept design package, which focused on the overall graphic identity and base illustrations, we used our expertise in malleable and adaptable design approaches to fill in further design needs related to the program branding by creating web graphics for the program website. The results of the overall design approach and strategy were wildly successful and received a positive reception by the museum’s audience. The design elements made their way into the overall program package that was mailed to participants. The experience box included an apron, lanyard, tote bag, and booklet all coordinated with the colorful, vibrant, and energetic spirit of the program.
